Tour Overview

This walking tour through Manaus combines history, culture, and stunning architecture. Our journey begins at 686 Rua 10 de Julho, located in the heart of the city.

We will first make our way to the Museum of the Amazon, a prime location to immerse ourselves in the rich culture of the capital city of the Brazilian Amazon. Here, we will wander through part of this expansive botanical garden, uncovering the intriguing flora and fauna that define the region.

Next, we will proceed to one of Manaus's cornerstones, the renowned Amazon Theater, a hallmark of the Belle Époque period, constructed in the late 19th century. This theater stands as one of the largest opera houses in Brazil and hosts the illustrious Amazonas Opera Festival.

During our visit, we will explore the theater’s interior while sharing insights into its architectural details. The stunning Italian Carrara marble used throughout the building, visible in the grand staircases and columns, is sure to captivate you.

Afterward, we will stroll through Largo de São Sebastião, the cultural heart of Manaus. Here, we will admire the Church of Saint Sebastian before making our way to the Palace of Justice, notable for its striking exterior that never ceases to impress visitors.

Our journey will continue towards the historic center of the city, passing by the iconic Municipal Clock Square. At this site, we will admire a neoclassical clock, a testament to history that dates back to the early 20th century and is classified as a State Historic Landmark.

We will also visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Conception. After further exploration, our path will lead us to the port of Manaus, recognized as the world’s largest river port. Along the route, we will observe how life in the city is intricately linked to the Negro River, where boats are filled with local produce, fish, and other regional goods.

A short distance away lies the Adolpho Lisboa municipal market, a space inspired by the creations of Gustave Eiffel. This market, established in 1883, offers a vibrant atmosphere bursting with Amazonian products.

During our visit, we will navigate the aisles lined with handicrafts and exotic foods, including cupuaçu and guaraná. You will also have the opportunity to engage with local vendors who will share insights into the culinary heritage of Manaus.
