Guática & Quinchía Day Trip

The journey commences at 7 am, as we collect you from your hotel in Manizales and set off towards the Department of Risaralda in the northwest of Colombia.

Your adventure begins with a scenic 2-hour 30-minute jeep ride to Quinchía, our first destination. Nestled among the hills, this charming village is recognized for its remarkable cultural and natural beauty. It was honored as the Most Beautiful Town in Risaralda in 1985.

Upon arrival, we will visit the Tierras de Xixarca Archaeological Museum, which features significant artifacts from the Quimbaya civilization. As we navigate through the various exhibits, you will gain insights into the history of this indigenous group.

Following the museum, we will explore a filigree workshop, where skilled artisans craft exquisite handicrafts characteristic of Quinchía utilizing traditional goldsmithing techniques.

A pause will be taken for a traditional local lunch that includes a dish and a drink. Once our meal concludes, we will journey to Guática, traversing the picturesque landscapes of northern Risaralda.

This town, established in 1638 by indigenous people under the guidance of the cacique Guática, is notably recognized for its silk production. The local community cultivates mulberry trees and raises silk worms that yield high-quality silk, utilized in fabric manufacturing.

Moreover, we will delve into the intricate process of silk creation. You will also have some time dedicated for shopping before we conclude the day and return you to your hotel in Manizales by approximately 4 pm.
