Great Ocean Road Tour
Description
Are you ready to leave the urban landscape behind for an authentic Australian journey along the open road? Experience the stunning natural splendor of the Great Ocean Road and uncover the hidden treasures of south-eastern Australia.
Tour Overview
We'll commence our adventure with a pickup from your hotel in Melbourne before embarking on the Great Ocean Road, recognized as a site of Australian National Heritage. This coastal drive is celebrated for its extraordinary landscapes, where you'll encounter striking coastal vistas featuring roaring waves, endless sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, and dramatic rock formations.
Your first stop will be Torquay Beach, an iconic surfing destination where you can enjoy the invigorating sea breeze. Next, we’ll visit the Role House, the most photographed building along the Great Ocean Road. Perched 40 meters (130 feet) above ground on a single concrete column, its distinctive design makes it an outstanding highlight of our journey.
Continuing, we’ll capture a memorable photograph at the Great Ocean Road sign, a quintessential moment for everyone embarking on this journey. Our exploration will then lead us to a location where you can spot koalas and vibrant parrots in their natural habitat. Afterward, we’ll visit Cape Patton, offering one of the finest viewpoints along this scenic drive. Be sure to have your camera ready!
A midday break for lunch (at your own cost) will take place in the picturesque Apollo Bay, known for its delightful cuisine and surf heritage. Enjoy a tasty meal at a local café, followed by some free time to explore the charming shops or take a refreshing swim in the bay.
Once recharged, we’ll venture into the lush Great Otway National Park, a haven for numerous colorful parrots amidst towering eucalyptus trees and indigenous hardwoods—the tallest trees globally.
Next, we’ll head to the Port Campbell National Park, where the stunning Twelve Apostles await your admiration. These impressive limestone formations are a breathtaking sight, and you'll learn about their origins and the story behind the eight that remain today. Depending on the conditions, you might even descend the Gibson Steps to observe these giants from the beach.
Your journey will then take you to Loch Ard Gorge, a picturesque beach flanked by verdant wilderness. This spot boasts a rich maritime history, reflecting the treacherous nature of the Shipwreck Coast. You’ll also see the magnificent Razorback and Island Archway, two remarkable rock formations that punctuate the coastline.
After an extraordinary day exploring the Great Ocean Road, we will transport you back to your hotel in Melbourne, stopping for dinner at one of the numerous eateries in Colac (at your own expense). After 13 hours of adventure, we’ll conclude our experience, parting ways at your hotel with hopes of seeing you again soon!
