Teotihuacán Day of the Dead Bike Tour
Description
Description
This cycling excursion allows participants to immerse themselves in a blend of archaeology, culture, and age-old traditions while experiencing the Day of the Dead in Teotihuacán. The journey includes pedaling through villages adjacent to the pyramids, exploring cemeteries adorned with vibrant cempasúchil flowers, and savoring a local culinary delight.
Itinerary
On the day of the tour, we gather to initiate our biking journey through the historic Teotihuacán Valley. Ready to begin? Let's get started!
The adventure kicks off with a guided walking exploration of the archaeological zone of Teotihuacán, where participants will uncover the grandeur and historical significance of this pivotal pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican city. After appreciating the history behind its ancient structures, we’ll put on our helmets, adjust our bicycles, and prepare to hit the road.
Our route takes us on a scenic bike ride through the surrounding local communities. During this segment, we’ll engage with the vibrant traditions of the Day of the Dead by visiting cemeteries embellished with the bright hues of the cempasúchil flower.
A special highlight of the tour will be a visit to a pre-Hispanic-inspired altar, where we’ll explore the deep significance of various offerings including water, food, salt, papel picado, and photographs. This segment will also delve into how the indigenous views of death have evolved, merging seamlessly with contemporary customs in the valley.
Additionally, we’ll venture into a local neighborhood showcasing murals and participate in an obsidian and craft workshop, allowing us to learn about traditional trades passed down through generations. To culminate this memorable day, we will enjoy a traditional meal together.
The tour will conclude in Teotihuacán after approximately 5.5 hours, or we may return to the starting point in Mexico City after 8 hours, based on your selected tour option.
