Nevado de Toluca Hike
Description
Experience the majestic perennial lagoons nestled high in the mountains with an extraordinary trek to the summit of the Nevado de Toluca volcano. This adventure leads you to some of Mexico's most breathtaking natural wonders.
Nevado de Toluca Trek
Your day will commence at 7 am at the Michoacán Market in Mexico City, where we’ll depart towards the Nevado de Toluca National Park, setting the stage for an unforgettable hike.
Upon arrival around 9:30 am at the park’s Alpine refuge, you will receive a snack pack for later enjoyment. We will then embark on our ascent towards the first destination, the enchanting Moon Lagoon, situated on the eastern slope of the volcano.
After approximately three hours of hiking, we will reach the spectacular crater of the Nevado de Toluca. Here, you will have a full hour to explore the area and take in the views of the stunning Toluca and Tenango valleys. Fortunately, there is no need for concern, as this volcano has been dormant for the last century.
Next, we’ll begin our descent, making a stop at the impressive Laguna del Sol, which is uniquely divided from the Moon Lagoon by a striking lava tongue. Our trek will conclude at the refuge at around 4 pm.
On our way back to Mexico City, we will pause at La Marquesa to recharge with traditional tacos and quesadillas, celebrating authentic Mexican cuisine.
The adventure will wrap up as we return to our starting point around 8 pm.
