Last Supper Guided Tour
Description
The iconic The Last Supper. Familiar from countless images, reproductions, and even humorous adaptations, this masterpiece by Leonardo has become a fundamental part of Milan's identity, making a guided visit indispensable for anyone exploring the city.
Last Supper Tour
Our journey begins in Milan's vibrant center, where we will first meander around the magnificent Santa Maria delle Grazie, a 15th-century convent recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Within the refectory of this historical church, in the 1490s, the remarkable artist Leonardo da Vinci created one of the most iconic pieces in Western art. The work was commissioned by Ludovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan, a noted patron of the arts, known also for the renowned castle that bears his name.
Next, we will step inside the enchanting Santa Maria delle Grazie, a stunning example of Renaissance architectural brilliance. We’ll wander through its historic hallways, soaking in the serene ambiance and exquisite terracotta ornaments, before turning our focus to the masterpiece itself.
Having withstood nearly 500 years of history, as well as bombings during World War II and questionable restoration efforts in the 18th century, The Last Supper has endured numerous challenges. Remarkably, it was already deemed "ruined" just sixty years after its completion by Leonardo's biographer, Giorgio Vasari, in 1556.
Restorations have helped to preserve parts of the painting's former beauty, while replicas circulate, yet access to the original artwork remains highly restricted. A limited number of visits are permitted, making your experience with Leonardo's work an exceptional privilege. Securing this reservation guarantees entry without waiting in line, presenting a rare chance to witness one of art's most significant creations firsthand.
Guided by an expert, you will delve into remarkable stories surrounding the painting, its genesis, preservation efforts, historical impact, and much more... This unforgettable tour spans approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
