Elephanta Caves Tour
Description
Are you in Bombay and eager to explore one of India's most revered temples? Join us on this expedition to the Elephanta Caves as we delve into the mysteries of this magnificent Unesco World Heritage Site.
Elephanta Caves Tour
Our journey begins at 10:30 am in front of the PizzaExpress restaurant. From this meeting point, we will make our way to the Gateway of India. There, a ferry awaits to transport us to the awe-inspiring Elephanta Caves, an architectural gem revered as one of the most sacred temples in Bombay.
Upon arrival at this World Heritage Site, we’ll enter the expansive caverns, beginning our exploration at the galleries of the Shiva Cave. Here, you'll encounter numerous stone carvings that depict the significant events from the life of this important Hindu deity.
Throughout our visit, expect to learn fascinating details about the caves. For instance, it's believed they were constructed between 810 and 1260 AD. Moreover, during the 16th century, many statues suffered damage as they became targets for practice.
The adventure through the Elephanta Caves will proceed as we navigate various sanctuaries and meander through intricately carved passageways. Upon reaching the main grotto, we’ll pause to admire the impressive sculpture of Trimurti, which is dedicated to the three principal gods of Hinduism: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.
Following our immersion into Hindu history and culture, we will reboard the ferry and return to the Gateway of India, wrapping up our tour approximately four to five hours after we began.
