Day Trip to Harburg Castle and Rothenburg

The pathway connecting Munich to Harburg Castle and Rothenburg is famously known as the Romantic Road of Southern Germany. While on this remarkable adventure, you will find yourself surrounded by the picturesque forests and mountains that characterize Bavaria.

Commencing from Sonnenstrasse, 3, our journey begins as we delve into the serene Bavarian countryside. Our first destination is Harburg Castle. Here, you can freely explore this stunning 11th-century fortress at your leisure (entry not included). This extensive hilltop structure is esteemed as one of the oldest and most well-preserved medieval fortifications in Bavaria. Notably, Michael Jackson once expressed interest in acquiring it, dubbing it "the castle of my dreams".

Continuing onward, our next stop is Rothenburg. The route to this charming town takes us through the captivating volcanic scenery of the Swabian region, rich in fossils from ancient creatures.

Arriving in Rothenburg, we discover a medieval settlement that has remarkably maintained its charm through the ages. The distinctive red-tiled rooftops have earned it the moniker of the 'Red Fort'.

Wandering through its quaint cobblestone streets and the delightful old town, you will encounter the well-preserved 14th-century city wall, which we will enter via the historic gateway to the city. You’re welcome to traverse the wall and even ascend the Röedert Tower, which stands tall at 200 meters.

After this guided journey, you will have time to enjoy a meal and shop along the charming narrow lanes of one of Germany's most exquisite locations.

On our return, we will pass through Hallertau, the world’s largest hop-growing area, before finally arriving back at the meeting point in Munich, bringing this enriching 11-hour adventure to a close.
