Neuschwanstein Castle & Linderhof Palace Day Trip
Description
Experience a captivating day trip from Munich as you delve into the remarkable opulence of Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace, two magnificent structures nestled in Bavaria, crafted by the visionary King Ludwig II. Enjoy sweeping views of the serene German landscape on your way.
Day Trip Overview
At the agreed-upon time, we will gather at 21 Karlsplatz in Munich and board the bus, commencing our excursion to Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace. Hidden amongst the Bavarian mountains, these stunning palaces, recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2025, reflect the artistic ambitions of King Ludwig II.
Our first stop will be the exquisite Linderhof Palace, approximately 1.5 hours from Munich. Here, we will embark on a 1-hour journey guided by an audio guide. This 19th-century gem, styled in French Rococo and reminiscent of Versailles, is surrounded by meticulously kept gardens. Notably, it is the smallest of Ludwig II’s three palaces, and the only one he personally saw completed, residing here for much of his life from 1876. You’ll uncover the palace’s intriguing history while wandering through its splendid rooms, including the Hall of Mirrors, the Tapestry Chambers (Eastern and Western), and the Audience Chamber.
Next, we will proceed to Neuschwanstein Castle, enjoying a scenic drive through Oberammergau for about 1 hour. This 19th-century masterpiece, perched at the base of the Alps in southern Germany, resembles something out of a fairy tale. For roughly 4 hours, you can discover the castle at your leisure with the help of an audio guide. As you marvel at its architecture, it will become clear why it inspired Disney’s enchanting castles. Standing tall at 213 ft (65 m), it proudly holds the title of the tallest castle in the world according to the Guinness World Records!
Finally, we will embark on our return journey to Munich, concluding our 10-hour adventure back at the meeting point.
