Exploration of Mount Vesuvius

Your adventure begins when we collect you from the designated meeting location at the scheduled time, setting off towards Torre del Greco, the town nestled at the base of Campania's renowned volcano.

Our journey continues on foot along a trail leading to the mountain's summit. Standing at nearly 1,000 meters (3,280 feet), the pinnacle offers remarkable sights of the Bay of Naples. This area of the Mediterranean witnessed a catastrophic eruption in 79 AD that obliterated the cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae.

As we make our way down, we will delve deeper into the history of that devastating event, which unfolded during the Roman Empire. We will also uncover intriguing details about this volcano, renowned for its appearances in various films and television shows, ranking it among the most filmed volcanoes in Europe, alongside Mount Etna.

Upon returning to the bus, we will head back to Naples, concluding this 3.5 to 4-hour experience.

Ascent Details

The climb up Mount Vesuvius will be conducted on foot, reaching an elevation of approximately 1,200 meters (3,937 feet). Those with mobility challenges or who prefer not to ascend to the top may wait for the group at a designated resting area at the base of the mountain.

In rare circumstances, inclement weather may result in restricted access to the crater. If this occurs, we will pause at a scenic viewpoint for photo opportunities.

Guidance

Throughout our bus journey, you will receive insights from an English-speaking driver.

It’s important to note that the hike up Mount Vesuvius must be led by the park's official guides, as independent guides are not allowed entry. These park guides typically speak both English and Italian. While efforts will be made to provide an English-speaking guide, availability cannot be promised, and self-guided exploration might be necessary on certain occasions.

Meeting Point

During the booking process, you have the option to begin your tour at your hotel in Naples, the cruise terminal, or directly at the central station (located just outside the Star Hotel Terminus at Plaza Garibaldi).

Please be aware that the pickup service at the Naples port is exclusively available for cruise passengers. For those residing in the city, we will collect you from your hotel or the train station.
