Show Details
When the young prince Simba is born, his evil uncle Scar loses his chance at becoming king. Scar plots to kill Simba and his father, King Mufasa, to seize power. Although Simba survives, Scar manipulates him into believing he is responsible for his father's death, prompting Simba to flee. Years later, upon returning to the kingdom, he discovers the savannah in decline under Scar's rule and resolves to reclaim his rightful place and confront Scar.
The Lion King is based on the 1994 Oscar-winning Disney animated film of the same name. It has won six Tony Awards and an Evening Standard Award, making it one of the best-selling musicals in New York since 1997. The New York Times states, “There is simply nothing quite like it”.
