Description

Discover the intriguing archaeological site of Ensérune with this entry ticket, which provides access to an ancient Gallic community situated on a hill referred to as an "oppidum".

What to Expect at the Ensérune Archaeological Site

Located atop a hill modeled in the Roman oppidum tradition, the Ensérune archaeological site is a key highlight for anyone interested in Antiquity within the Hérault department of Occitania.

Your ticket for the Ensérune archaeological site allows you to wander through the remnants of this historic Gallic settlement. Notable highlights include the remains of a silo, which served as an essential facility for storing valuable grains.

Alongside access to the oppidum, your ticket also grants you entry to the Ensérune Archaeological Museum. Its exhibitions cover seven centuries of history relating to this Mediterranean settlement, which saw influences from Celts, Iberians, Greeks, Etruscans, and Romans.

The museum features several models and 3-D recreations of the archaeological findings in the oppidum, along with a dedicated space that reconstructs the working environment of Felix Mouret, the archaeologist responsible for excavating the site in 1916.

Additionally, a visit to Ensérune provides breathtaking panoramic vistas extending from the Cévennes to the Pyrenees, all while you take in the expansive Languedoc plain leading towards the Mediterranean coast.
