Description

Considered by the Nazis as the "most German of German cities", Nuremberg became an important city during the Third Reich. Discover the places marked by this dark period of history on this guided walking tour.

Tour Details

Having met your guide in the historic centre of Nuremberg at the indicated time, you'll begin your walking tour around what the Nazis considered to be the "most German of German cities", leading them to hold their annual rallies here. Take in the Medieval buildings lining Hauptmarkt, the main market square: did you know this was the Jewish Quarter before the Second World War began?

Learn all about the persecution of Jews in Nuremberg as you stroll through the city streets towards the monument erected in memory of the former Synagogue. Your guide will also tell you about Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, as you explore the old town.

You'll discover the importance of Nuremberg for Hitler and the Nazi Party as you continue on your route, as well as hearing about some of the most notorious figures related to the city, like Julius Streicher. Reaching the ruins of the Katharinenkirche, an important Medieval church which was destroyed during World War II, your tour will take a happier turn, as you learn about the resistance and liberation of the city. Many women played a key role in the reconstruction of the city following the war, earning them the nickname Trümmerfrauen, or "rubble women"!

Visiting St Lorenz, a 13th-century Gothic church, you'll learn about the concentration camps and the prisoners interned there, before making your way to one of Hitler's favourite buildings in Nuremberg: the Opera House or Staatstheater Nürnberg

The final stop on your tour will be the Way of Human Rights, or the Strasse der Menschenrechte in German, where your guide will explain the postwar Nuremberg Trials and how they marked a turning point in international law.

After 3 hours, we'll finish the tour in the centre of Nuremberg.
