Free Walking Tour of Ohrid
Our adventure begins at 11 am in Ohrid's Central Square, where we will embark on a walking tour through the captivating historic district.
Initially, our path leads us to two traditional workshops. One specializes in wooden crafts, while the other focuses on handmade paper. There, we will have the opportunity to learn about the ancient Chinese techniques that have been employed in paper-making.
As we continue our exploration of Ohrid, the stunning façades of houses from the Ottoman Empire will catch our eye. We will visit local markets where we can delve into the delightful gastronomy of North Macedonia.
Our next stop will be the Church of St. Clement. Adjacent to it, we will discover a university established in the 9th century, which ranks as one of the oldest in Europe. Discussions will center around its Slavic founders and the impact of the Ottoman invasion on its legacy.
Before concluding our tour, we will visit an impressive Greek theatre that dates back to the 2nd century BC. Here, we will uncover the story behind the renowned pearls of Ohrid, which are so esteemed that they have been incorporated into Queen Elizabeth II's jewellery collection.
