Ribeira Sacra & Ourense Tour
Description
Explore breathtaking landscapes, ancient monasteries, and exquisite wines as you delve into the treasures of the Ribeira Sacra and Ourense on this excursion departing from Santiago de Compostela.
Ribeira Sacra & Ourense Excursion
Our journey begins promptly as we set off towards the northern part of the region, initiating our guided exploration of Ribeira Sacra. The area derives its name from the Middle Ages, a period characterized by the presence of numerous monasteries nestled within the steep terrains that define this unique location. Ribeira Sacra, translating to Sacred Riverbank, reflects the rich heritage of these historic structures.
Upon arrival, we will embark on a catamaran cruise along the River Sil canyons. For an hour and a half, this scenic ride will immerse you in the stunning vistas, showcasing towering cliffs that reach heights of nearly 500 meters. During the journey, refreshments including coffee, soft drinks, or a glass of the renowned Ribeira Sacra wine will be available for your enjoyment.
After disembarking the catamaran, we will continue our adventure with a visit to one of the prominent viewpoints of Ribeira Sacra. Following this, we will proceed to the Monastery of San Pedro de Rocas, a remarkable architectural landmark of the area. According to tradition, this site was established by hermits in the 6th century.
Our next destination will be Ourense, recognized as the thermal capital of Galicia. Here, you will have some free time for lunch, and the option to visit the majestic Cathedral. In the afternoon, we will take a stroll through the historic center to uncover the reasons behind its nickname, the 'City of Bridges.
Your day will culminate with our return to the original meeting points, approximately eight to ten hours after the tour's commencement.
