Day Excursion to Hacienda Chimalpa & Zempoala Convent

At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your hotel in Pachuca and embark on a journey to one of the most renowned pulque haciendas in Hidalgo. Fun fact: pulque is often referred to as the Nectar of the Gods.

While the exact origins of this drink remain unclear, it has been referenced in the literature of Central America's Indigenous Peoples dating back to around the year 200. The drink is produced through the fermentation of the maguey plant, also known as aguamiel (honeywater), and remains one of the most cherished traditional spirits in Mexico.

Our visit to Hacienda Chimalpa will provide insight into their operations and the cultivation of maguey. During this leg of the trip, we will view the main structure, the impressive church, and the charming colonial-style chapel. This estate is a venue for various events and performances, so we will also explore facilities like the Trojes Hall and the Ruedo, known for its equestrian displays.

Following this segment of our itinerary, we'll proceed to our next stop, taking a moment to admire the Padre Tembleque Aqueduct. This remarkable hydraulic engineering achievement was constructed in the 16th century during the era of the Viceroyalty of New Spain.

Subsequently, we will continue to the Zempoala Convent, also referred to as the Todos los Santos Convent. This structure, built in Plateresque style, boasts an elegant façade adorned with segmental arches and stunning columns. Together with the aqueduct, this site forms part of the Hydraulic System of the Aqueduct of Padre Tembleque, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will explore its temple, chapel, and atrium while learning about the history of the Franciscan order that oversaw its establishment.

To conclude our day, we will make a brief stop in the village of Zempoala, allowing you time to enjoy lunch independently before we return to Pachuca. We aim to drop you back at your hotel approximately 10 hours after our initial pickup.
