Tour Details
We will meet at the given time in front of the Monument to the University located in Plaza de San Pablo. From here, our mysteries and legends tour of Palencia begins, set in a city full of eerie secrets.
Steps away, we will stop in front of the Church of San Pablo, a Gothic-style church that serves as an introduction to the secrets we are about to unravel. Participants will learn about the Morenilla and the Virgen de la Calle, whose tranquil facade has witnessed inexplicable miracles and deep devotion. We’ll explore the origin of its nickname and the fervor it inspired among its many followers.
Next, we’ll walk the streets where the legendary Cid Campeador may have trodden and behold a unique Christ. According to legend, his nails and hair grow—could this be a divine sign or a foreboding omen? Be attentive, as we will encounter a braid that, tradition holds, can help you find love if you pull it with conviction.
Following this, we will navigate through Palencia's monuments as we recount the chilling tale of the Cristo del Otero. This story involves the Pan y Quesillo and the notorious crimen del ermitaño, echoing a past that seems to linger in the stones of Palencia's historic center.
As shadows deepen, we’ll evoke Don Juan Tenorio and his pursuit of Margarita la Tornera, intertwining the realms of the ghostly and the romantic.
The tour will also lead us to the well of the Palencia Cathedral, known for its mysterious and healing waters. To conclude, we’ll recount the tragic tale of the heir of Castilla, whose demise cast a pall of sorrow along the banks of the Carrión River, leaving behind a legacy of mystery.
Through squares, ancient markets, and enigmatic corners, we will reach the Calle Mayor, wrapping up our exploration of Palencia's hidden side after 1.5 hours.
