Palermo Complimentary Tour
At the agreed time, gather at the entrance of the Sant'Ignazio all'Olivella Church located in the Champagneria district. From there, we will proceed towards Piazza Verdi, home to the majestic Teatro Massimo. Here, we’ll take a moment to appreciate the grand facade of this monumental structure, notable for its impressive hemispherical dome. Did you know it ranks among Europe's largest theatres?
Our journey will then lead us to the Galleria delle Vittorie, a historic shopping area that opened in 1935, rich with intriguing stories. A short walk away, we will arrive at Quattro Canti, the octagonal square marking the junction of Via Maqueda and Via Vittorio Emanuele, recognized as one of Palermo's most photographed spots.
Continuing on, we will head to Piazza Bellini to admire the church of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio, famously known as La Martorana. The church's current aesthetics reflect a blend of various architectural styles over its original Norman foundations, showcasing Palermo's eclectic nature.
Next, our guide will guide us towards Corso Vittorio Emanuele, presenting the stunning Cathedral of Palermo. Dating back to 1184, this majestic structure stands on the site of a basilica that was transformed into a mosque by the Arabs and later restored to Christianity by the Normans. We will admire this remarkable Arab-Norman style cathedral, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while learning captivating insights about its significance within Sicily.
After two hours of exploration, our tour will conclude.
