Palermo Sweet Treat Tour
Description
Embark on a culinary adventure in Palermo, where we will delve into the delicious world of traditional sweets unique to this Sicilian city. This journey will take us from historic convents to vibrant markets, making it a perfect outing for those who cherish exquisite flavors!
Tour Details
Our meeting point will be in Piazza Pretoria, from where we will navigate to the central areas of Palermo. The streets we traverse echo with the influences of Arab and Norman cultures, revealing how ingredients like sugar, almonds, and citrus have become integral to the essence of Palermo.
Our first stop will be the renowned Monastery of Santa Caterina, a key site for traditional pastry-making in Sicily. Here, we will uncover the rich history behind recipes crafted in the sanctuary of the cloister, made with meticulous care.
Within the span of a 45-minute exploration, we will savor the iconic Sicilian cannolo, famous for its crispy shell perfected through an expertly blended dough. Additionally, we will enjoy the baked cassata, a delightful mix of ricotta, sponge cake, and candied citrus. We will also indulge in the genovese, a custard-filled pastry that showcases the artistry behind its simplicity.
Following this, we will stroll through the busy Ballarò Market for a duration of 30 minutes, immersing ourselves in a vibrant sensory experience. As we meander through the market’s stalls and absorb the rich aromas, we will arrive at Terranova, a remarkable shop known for its artisanal sweets.
Here, we will witness the craftsmanship involved in creating carob candies, a humble treat celebrated for its rich balsamic flavor. Of course, we will also sample these confections infused with Sicilian citrus, known for their potent essential oils.
After a total of 2.5 hours of this sweet exploration, we will conclude our delightful tour at this final location.
