Bartolomé March Foundation Museum
Nestled adjacent to the Almudaina Royal Palace and Palma Cathedral, Palau March stands as a significant architectural treasure in the historical nucleus of the Balearic capital.
This grand palace was originally built to house the March family, constructed from 1939 to 1945 under the commission of Joan March Ordinas, a prominent Mallorcan entrepreneur. The architectural design of this impressive building incorporates various stylistic influences, marrying historicism with elements drawn from Mallorcan and Italian Baroque traditions.
In 1975, the second son of Joan March Ordinas, Bartolomé March, founded the Bartolomé March Servera Foundation, focusing on promoting the arts and cultural patronage.
Presently, the Palau March acts as the home of the Bartolomé March Foundation Museum. Enjoy the freedom to explore its notable spaces at your convenience:
- Viewing Platform: This spectacular garden terrace presents one of the most breathtaking panoramic sights of the cathedral alongside Palma’s historic landscape.
- Contemporary Sculpture Collection: Features significant works by illustrious artists like Henry Moore, Eduardo Chillida, Auguste Rodin, and Barbara Hepworth.
- 18th-Century Neapolitan Nativity Scene: A magnificent nativity display showcasing nearly 2,000 intricately adorned figures.
- Murals by Josep Maria Sert: One of the preeminent muralists of the 20th century.
- Library and cartographic collection: This library focuses on Balearic studies and contains a remarkable set of nautical charts and incunabula dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries.
