Lake Atitlan Villages Tour
Description
Join us for a captivating journey to the stunning villages around Lake Atitlan that departs from Panajachel. This experience promises breathtaking views of volcanoes and an immersion into the vibrant Mayan culture of the region.
Tour Overview
At the designated time, we will gather at the entrance of Porta Hotel del Lago de Panajachel. From there, we will proceed to the dock where we will board a boat destined for Lake Atitlan, which many regard as one of the most picturesque lakes globally.
The adventure begins as we traverse the tranquil waters of the lake, unveiling its hidden gems and engaging with the rich Mayan heritage that thrives in the surrounding Mayan villages, nestled at the feet of the Tolimán, Atitlán, and San Pedro volcanoes. Prepare to be amazed by the stunning landscapes!
Our first stop will be San Juan La Laguna, a community where the essence of Mayan traditions is still alive among its residents. A meandering walk through the village’s narrow lanes adorned with indigenous murals will lead us to meet a group of Mayan women artisans. Here, we will gain insights into the art of natural dyeing textiles and the fascinating process of chocolate production.
Next, we will continue to the nearby village of San Marcos La Laguna. Here, the bohemian vibe mixed with its reputation as a haven for spiritual seekers enchants every visitor. You will appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and the unique lifestyle of the local residents!
Afterward, we will board the boat again to journey towards Santiago Atitlán, known for its vibrant market and embodiment of Mayan culture. We will explore its central square and church, taking in the lively streets as we walk from the pier. To conclude our visit, we will enjoy a meal at a local restaurant renowned for its authentic Guatemalan cuisine.
Finally, we will return across the lake, heading back to Panajachel, where our enriching experience will come to a close after approximately 6 to 7 hours.
