In the 14th century, amidst the glory of King Charles VI's reign, the desire to showcase his might led to the transformation of a small, dilapidated fort from the 12th century into a strikingly elegant fortress: the Chateau de Pierrefonds. This grand construction reflects the architectural ingenuity of the era.
Your ticket grants you access to one of the most beautifully preserved monuments in the Oise department, situated in the Celtic region of Hauts-de-France. Included is a brochure in English and additional languages, allowing you to wander freely and appreciate the opulence of each room.
Within the walls of the Chateau, you’ll encounter a captivating collection of artworks, historical artifacts, and antique furnishings spanning various epochs in French history, from the Middle Ages through the Napoleonic era. Notably, it was Napoleon III who tasked the esteemed architect Viollet-le-Duc with restoring the castle to its current grandeur.
As you navigate through the Chateau de Pierrefonds, keep an eye out for the halls that have served as backdrops for renowned films and television series, including The Story of Joan of Arc and The Man in the Iron Mask, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Opening Hours
The Chateau de Pierrefonds welcomes visitors during the following hours:
- May 2 - September 4: 9:30 am - 6:00 pm
- September 5 - April 30: 10:00 am - 5:30 pm
Note that on December 24th and 31st, the castle closes early at 3:30 pm.
Last entry is permitted 1 hour before the closing time.
Free Admission
Entry to the Chateau de Pierrefonds is complimentary for:
- Young people from the European Union aged 18 to 25.
- Children under 18, irrespective of nationality.
To obtain the free admission, please visit the ticket office onsite with a valid document verifying your eligibility.
Additionally, all visitors can enjoy free access on the first Sunday of each month from January to March, November to December, and during the third weekend of September.

Important information
The castle is located at the following address in the municipality of the same name: Rue Viollet-le-Duc. To visit, you just have to show the barcode on the entrance ticket of this booking.
How to get to the castle:

From Paris by car: This journey to the Chateau de Pierrefonds takes just 1 hour and 30 minutes. As you leave the French capital, you should head to the road A1 (Autoroute du Nord) until exit 9. Then head to the road D85 until you reach the municipality of Pierrefonds.
- From Paris by train and bus: In just over an hour, the TER train connects Paris with Compiègne. In front of the train station, you can get the bus line 27, which will take just 20 minutes, and stop next to the Chateau de Pierrefonds.
Opening Hours
The Chateau de Pierrefonds has the following opening hours:
- 2 May to 4 September: from 9:30 am to 6 pm
- 5 September to 30 April: from 10 am to 5:30 pm
On the 24th and 31st of December, the monument closes at 3:30 pm.
Last entry is 1 hour before closing time.

Free Admission
Admission to the Chateau de Pierrefond is free for the following individuals:
- Young people from the European Union between 18 and 25 years old.
- Children under 18 years old, regardless of their nationality.
In order to acquire the free admission mentioned above, you'll have to go to the site’s ticket office and present a certifying document of your eligibility for a free ticket.
Admission is also free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31, between November 1 and December 31, and the third weekend of September.
Validity
The ticket will be valid for 7 days from the date indicated on the voucher.
