Pisa Cathedral, Baptistery + Leaning Tower Tour
Description
Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Pisa during this guided exploration of the Cathedral and Baptistery. An optional ascent of the famed Leaning Tower is also available!
Itinerary for the Cathedral, Baptistery & Leaning Tower Tour
Your adventure commences at the Porta Santa Maria archway, where you'll meet your knowledgeable guide. From there, you'll proceed into the renowned Piazza dei Miracoli, a key architectural site in Tuscany. You will stroll past the solemn walls of the Camposanto, a monumental cemetery, unveiling the narratives hidden within this legendary square.
The first monument to explore is the Pisa Cathedral, commonly referred to as the Duomo. Inside, you’ll delve into the fascinating history surrounding its construction which dates back to the 11th century. Marvel at the artworks prominently displayed in the main nave, including stunning mosaics, intricate apse paintings, detailed frescoes, exquisite marble sculptures, and the grand pulpit.
Following your visit to the Duomo, a guided tour of the stunning Baptistery awaits. This sacred space, dedicated to St John the Baptist, is recognized as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside other monumental installations within the Piazza. Did you know it holds the title of the largest Catholic baptistery globally? Its impressive scale is truly remarkable!
The tour concludes, after about 1.5 to 2 hours, at the base of the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa, an emblematic structure and one of the most photographed landmarks in Italy. While appreciating its exceptional architecture, your guide will share the intriguing stories behind this bell tower... ever wondered why it leans? What links it to Galileo? Get ready to uncover these mysteries during your visit!
Moreover, should you choose the option that includes access to the Leaning Tower, you will receive entrance tickets for the Museo delle Sinopie and the Museo Opera del Duomo. These tickets will be provided at the conclusion of the tour, enabling you to explore these attractions independently afterwards.
