Your journey begins with a pickup from your hotel in Pisciotta or at a designated meeting location. From there, we will make our way to the archaeological site of Velia, nestled within the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park. Are you ready to unveil one of the region's hidden treasures?
Upon reaching the site, we will explore the ruins of this ancient city, which was known as Velia by the Romans and Elea by the Greeks. Prepare to stroll through the agora of Velia, a gathering place where renowned philosophers from the Eleatic school, like Parmenides, Zeno, and Melissus, are believed to have convened.
Our visit will also include the acropolis of Elea and the Tower of Velia, constructed in the Middle Ages by the Angevin dynasty. An interesting tidbit: during the summer months, this venue hosts theatrical performances!
Additionally, we will observe the remarkable Porta Rosa (translated as "Pink Door"), the oldest surviving example of a 4th-century Greek arch, which stands as a significant architectural treasure of its era.
After a rich six-hour exploration, we will return you to your hotel in Pisciotta.
