Birdwatching Options

When making your reservation, you can select from two distinct options for this thrilling birdwatching activity. Both alternatives include pickup and drop-off from your hotel in Pitalito. Here are the available choices:

Birdwatching at El Recreo Eco-Farm (10 Hours)

Upon picking you up from your hotel, we'll head to El Recreo Eco-Farm, just a short 30-minute drive away.

Once we arrive, you'll have the opportunity to explore the farm's trails, kicking off your birdwatching experience. The Huila department, known for its avian diversity, ranks 12th nationally, boasting over 700 unique species.

During our leisurely 1.5-kilometre (0.93-mile) hike, you’ll encounter various native birds, including the bronze-winged parrot, the barred antshrike, and the apical flycatcher, among many others. Throughout our exploration, we'll provide insights about these fascinating creatures.

After our hike, you can enjoy a tranquil swim in “El pozo de la eterna juventud” (The Well of Eternal Youth), a serene spot with crystal-clear waters surrounded by nature. In this area, a relaxing mud treatment awaits you, enhancing your rejuvenation.

Following this refreshing interlude, a delicious traditional Colombian lunch will be served. Once replenished, we will engage in a "Recharging from a tree" activity, connecting deeply with the natural world—an uplifting conclusion to the day!

We will then commence our return to the starting location, concluding after an enriching 10 hours.

Birdwatching at El Encanto Natural Reserve (12 Hours)

Your journey begins with a pick-up from your accommodation as we head to El Encanto Reserve, located in Palestina, approximately 45 minutes from Pitalito.

Upon arrival, we will be greeted with a cup of Colombian coffee and a delicious breakfast. After re-energizing, we will embark on a trail throughout the reserve, marveling at the spectacular bird species inhabiting this area. Look out for the gorgeted woodstar, the rufous-tailed hummingbird, and the black-chested fruiteater.

Following our 4-kilometre (2.5 miles) trek, a well-deserved lunch awaits. Post-meal, we will delve into conversations about the rich flora and fauna that define this beautiful region as we stroll through the estate's orchid gardens.

A visit to the pools of River Guarapas will follow, where you can opt for a refreshing dip amid the stunning backdrop of emerald-green mountains. It’s a truly magical experience!

Finally, we will return to our original meeting point, wrapping up our adventure after a fulfilling 12 hours.

Hotel Pickup

Hotel pickup and drop-off services are included for participants located in the urban area of Pitalito. Please note that the starting time will differ based on the option selected:

• Birdwatching at El Recreo Eco-Farm: pickup will commence at 7 am
• Birdwatching at El Encanto Natural Reserve: pickup will commence at 6 am
