Plovdiv Tour + Audio Guide
Description
Embark on an audioguide tour of Plovdiv, where the rich tapestry of history awaits in one of Bulgaria's ancient cities. Prepare to step back in time as we navigate through its historical streets!
Tour Overview
Meeting at the designated point outside the Ramada Hotel, we will commence our exploration of the old town of Plovdiv, unearthing the stories and secrets concealed within its walls. Let's begin our journey!
The adventure kicks off at the remains of the Roman Stadium of Philippopolis followed by the Roman Theater. As we appreciate the architecture from the 1st and 2nd centuries, discussions will revolve around the reigns of Domitian and Hadrian.
We will then proceed towards Saborna Street, home to the church of St. Constantine and St. Helena. After this visit, we’ll meander past Krastev Square or Lapidarium, where we will discover the Hindliyan and Balabanov houses. We will pause to admire their facades and delve into the history of their affluent original owners.
Our next destination will be the Armenian Catholic Church and the curious statue of the Great Tattletale. Its name holds an interesting tale. Soon after, we’ll arrive at the Ethnographic Museum and continue our climb to Nebet Tepe, the site where Plovdiv’s earliest history unfolds.
As we proceed, we will encounter the medieval Hisar Kapia Gate, constructed on what once was a Roman gateway. After exploring its background, we’ll venture to the Muslim temple of Puldin and the notable houses of Lamartine and Klianti, quintessential representations of the Bulgarian Renaissance.
In conclusion, our tour leads us to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary of Plovdiv and the Djumaya Mosque, enhancing our understanding of the city’s diverse religious heritage.
We will wrap up this insightful 2-hour exploration with an audioguide at this concluding point.
