Trip Overview
The adventure begins at the designated meeting point at Rua de São Filipe Nery 60, in Porto, Portugal. From there, we will travel towards Amarante, a captivating city renowned for its significant artistic, cultural, and architectural treasures that will undoubtedly captivate you. Let the exploration begin!
Situated 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Porto and nestled in the stunning Serra do Marão, Amarante overlooks the Tâmega River, which is the longest tributary of the Duero. The breathtaking views from the city's vantage points upon arrival will set a majestic backdrop for our exploration of this charming locale.
As we stroll through its scenic streets, you will have the chance to admire the charming houses that adorn both banks of the river. We will also uncover the remarkable history of the Amarante community and their resilience during the early 19th century when they faced the invasion of Napoleon's forces.
No visit to Amarante would be complete without witnessing the São Gonçalo Bridge and Monastery. It’s intriguing to note that many landmarks here are named in honor of the same individual. We will delve into the town’s deep-seated veneration for this saint!
After an enriching exploration of Amarante, we will head back to Porto, concluding our journey after 8 hours.

We recommend arriving at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before the tour begins.
