Get ready to delve into the supernatural on this haunted tour of Providence, where the eerie history of this colonial city awaits you.

Providence Ghostly Heritage Tour

Welcome to Rhode Island's capital! Our journey begins at the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial, from where we will embark on a walking exploration of Providence.

This historic city emerged as a refuge for settlers fleeing religious oppression, but it soon became infamous for its spectral inhabitants and persistent hauntings. Notably, renowned authors of horror such as Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and H.P. Lovecraft once resided here, drawing inspiration from its unique ambiance and mysteries, which we will uncover together during the tour.

Our first destination is University Hall at Brown University. Originally utilized as an emergency medical facility during the Revolutionary War, this building is notorious for the reports of spectral sightings by both students and faculty members. Perhaps we will encounter a few spirits ourselves!

We will then proceed to the Providence Athenaeum Library, a notable gathering place for both H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. An intriguing tidbit: this very library was Poe's favored locale during his courtship with Sarah Helen Whitman. Although their relationship did not lead to marriage, it is said that Poe's restless spirit still lingers within the library's walls.

Next, we'll visit the Shunned House, which served as the inspiration for H.P. Lovecraft's chilling narrative. While Lovecraft penned fictional accounts, many insist that the phantoms depicted in his story exist in reality. Our knowledgeable guide will provide us with in-depth insights about this haunted 18th-century residence, including tales of mysterious events, tragic deaths, and even encounters with terrifying entities.

After an engaging hour exploring the paranormal aspects of Providence, our tour will conclude at the iconic Fleur de Lys Studio.
