Punta Loma Beginner Scuba Diving & Snorkeling With Sea Lions

During this adventure, you will have the opportunity to snorkel with sea lions in Punta Loma and experience scuba diving for the first time in the chilly waters of Golfo Nuevo. This offers a uniquely memorable outing in Puerto Madryn!

Activity Overview

Participants will gather at number 1900 on Almirante Brown Boulevard. Once everyone has arrived, an introductory briefing will be provided along with wetsuits to prepare you for the aquatic journey ahead. Get ready for a close encounter with the marine ecosystem of Golfo Nuevo!

We will take a brief walk to the beach, where we will board a semi-rigid boat for a scenic ride of approximately 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) along the coastline towards Punta Loma. The journey highlights stunning golden cliffs, seabirds, and the expansive blue ocean. Interestingly, Punta Loma Protected Natural Area was recognized as the first official sea lion colony in Argentina.

Our first stop will be at a sea lion rookery, where we will don our snorkeling gear and swim among these fascinating Patagonian mammals. For around 40 minutes, you will glide through the water as they playfully swim alongside, rotate, and might even nudge your fins gently. Did you know these creatures can dive to depths reaching 100 meters (328 feet)?

Next, we will head to a more protected region of the gulf for the second part of our adventure: an introductory scuba diving session. Under the guidance of an instructor, you will be fully equipped and learn how to utilize the tank for breathing and how to descend beneath the waves. During this 15-minute dive, you will experience weightlessness with marine life swimming just inches away from you, including shimmering fish, gracefully swaying seaweed, and vibrant underwater landscapes.

In conclusion, we will make our way back to the initial meeting point, marking the end of this thrilling experience, which lasts about 3 hours.
