Balmaceda & Serrano Glaciers Boat Trip
Description
This boat excursion from Puerto Natales offers the chance to navigate the Última Esperanza Fjord and explore the stunning Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. Witness the beauty of two significant highlights within Bernardo O’Higgins National Park.
Activity Overview
The Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers stand out as key features of Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, ideal for anyone captivated by nature while visiting Chilean Patagonia. Are you prepared to immerse yourself in the wonders of the largest national park in Chile? Let’s begin!
We will convene at the Maritime Terminal, where our adventure starts as we board a vessel to set off through the Última Esperanza Fjord. Throughout the journey, anticipate breathtaking scenery, cascading waterfalls, and opportunities to spot local wildlife, including sea lions and cormorants.
Gradually, we will penetrate deeper into Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, which encompasses nearly four million hectares across Aysén and Magallanes. This area is also the home of the largest ice mass in the Americas.
Through this navigation, we will approach the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers, accessible solely by water. For a closer exploration, we will disembark at the Serrano Glacier, where we will embark on a 1.5-hour hike along designated paths and through the native forest to reach the base of this striking ice structure. This is an experience that truly captivates the senses.
Once back on the boat, we will celebrate with a whisky accompanied by ice from the glacier, adding a memorable touch to our visit to Serrano Glacier. We will continue our journey, passing the Balmaceda Glacier, and concluding this boat trip through Bernardo O’Higgins National Park on a high note.
Ultimately, we will head back to the departure point in Puerto Natales, bringing this excursion to a close after roughly 6 hours.
