Cerro Benítez Hiking
Description
Description
Embark on a captivating hiking adventure through Cerro Benítez, where an archaeological and natural gem of Chilean Patagonia awaits you. This journey invites you to witness rock paintings that date back over 3,500 years, navigate ancient caves, and soak in the breathtaking vistas of the Eberhard Fjord and Sofía Lagoon. It's an experience you won't want to miss!
Itinerary
Our expedition begins with a pickup from your hotel in Puerto Natales at the designated time, after which we’ll venture northward. A drive of approximately 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) will lead us to the entrance of the Cerro Benítez archaeological park.
The initial phase of our trek involves wandering through mountainous terrain and crevices that serve as a sanctuary for various bird species, including the magnificent Andean condor. Along the route, we’ll discuss the cultural and natural significance of this extraordinary landscape.
As we ascend Cerro Benítez, unparalleled panoramic views of the Eberhard Fjord, Señoret Channel, and the stunning Sofía Lagoon will reward our efforts. The vistas will leave you speechless, so ensure your camera is ready!
The hike will take us to the Window Cave, and subsequently, we’ll approach the entrance of the Hidden Cave. Equipped with headlamps, we will explore the interior, uncovering ancient stalactites that have developed over the years through the slow filtration of mineral-laden water.
Continuing on our path, we’ll reach the Dos Herraduras sector, characterized by captivating rock formations surrounded by lush forests. Here, we’ll witness rock paintings that are over 3,500 years old, offering a glimpse into the lives of the region's earliest inhabitants. You’ll find it truly fascinating!
In conclusion, we’ll retrace our steps to the original meeting point after completing a hike of 10 km (6.2 mi), with our entire activity spanning between 5 and 5.5 hours.
