Laguna Sofía Horseback Ride
Description
Join us on an unforgettable horseback ride around Laguna Sofía, where we’ll discover the stunning landscapes of Magallanes, observe condors in flight, and immerse ourselves in the beauty of Chilean Patagonia.
Activity Overview
At the designated time, we will collect you from your accommodation in Puerto Natales and travel to Laguna Sofía, a serene natural sanctuary within the Magallanes region. As we embark on our journey, the urban scenery will give way to breathtaking views of mountains, grasslands, and shimmering lakes.
Upon reaching our departure location, we will conduct a safety briefing with essential instructions for riding. Previous experience is not required, as we will guide you on how to mount your horse, maintain a balanced posture, and communicate effectively with your mount throughout the ride. Additionally, we will supply you with the necessary gear: helmets, leather chaps, and saddles equipped with saddlebags and sheep's wool pads.
Following this, we’ll embark on a picturesque horseback ride around Laguna Sofía. Over the span of 1 hour, we will traverse approximately 5 kilometers (3.11 mi) of trails nestled in the Southern Patagonian wilderness. Our pace will be leisurely, allowing us to soak in the stunning scenery of the lake and its surrounding slopes. This region is known as one of the prime locations near Puerto Natales to spot condors; with a bit of luck, we may witness these majestic birds soaring over the peaks, along with other avian species.
During our ride, we will also partake in discussions about the local history and culture, which are deeply intertwined with rural livelihoods, livestock rearing, and the exploration of the Magallanes landscapes.
As the experience concludes, we will return to our starting point, bid farewell to our fellow riders, and make our way back to your accommodation. The entire excursion will span approximately 3.5 hours.
