This food tour allows you to get to know a destination through its flavors. At the scheduled time, we'll meet in front of the Café Viejo Restaurant, located in the center of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. We'll embark on a journey to experience the essence, history, and cuisine of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
Once everyone is gathered, we will start our walking tour through the heart of Puerto Viejo, discovering the best-kept secrets of the town’s origins. To immerse ourselves in the culture, we'll enjoy a refreshing cold coconut water, highlighting the Afro-descendant heritage of the community.
As we stroll through the streets, we'll uncover the stories of Puerto Viejo’s founding families and the importance of traditional recipes in shaping the town’s identity. The flavors and aromas from the Afro, indigenous, and Costa Rican cultures create a vibrant and delicious cuisine.
The food tour will take you to various local restaurants and kitchens where you will sample typical dishes such as rondón, a creamy soup made with coconut milk, fresh fish, and vegetables; rice and beans cooked in coconut milk; and delightful desserts unique to this Caribbean region. Each tasting promises to be a mouthwatering experience!
You will also discover the secrets behind each recipe and learn about the common ingredients used in Puerto Viejo kitchens, including mango, banana, cassava, and fresh herbs.
After an enriching tour exploring authentic local life, we will conclude at Puerto Viejo Beach, wrapping up the experience approximately 2.5 hours later.
