Colca Canyon 2-Day Journey

Day 1: Puno - Chivay

Beginning your day, we will collect you from your accommodation in Puno between 6:00 am and 6:15 am, setting out towards Chivay, located roughly 186 miles (300 km) away. Our path will take us through the breathtaking terrain of the Altiplano.

Our initial stop will be at Lagunillas, where you can spot local bird species like flamingos and Andean geese. A short intermission will allow for altitude acclimatization while enjoying a soothing cup of muña or coca tea.

As we advance, we will reach the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve around mid-morning, presenting a chance to witness diverse wildlife, including vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas. Continuing our journey towards Patapampa, we will delve into the heart of Colca Canyon, passing by the crater of the extinct Chucura volcano and stopping at the Mirador de los Volcanes, where we can appreciate the Western Cordillera at an elevation of 16,108 ft (4,910 m).

Upon arrival in Chivay, you will be taken to your hotel, providing you some downtime for lunch at your convenience. In the afternoon, consider a relaxing visit to the renowned thermal baths in town.

Day 2: Chivay - Cruz del Cóndor - Chivay - Arequipa

Following breakfast at your hotel, we will make our way to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint. En route, relish the sight of agricultural terraces and explore the Andean town of Yanque, renowned for its colonial church and the traditional Wititi dance.

At the viewpoint, you'll have around 1 hour and 20 minutes to marvel at the stunning scenery of this remarkable canyon while observing the elegant condors soaring above.

After enjoying the breathtaking views, we’ll head back to Chivay, stopping in the town of Maca to explore its church, browse local crafts, and if desired, sample the traditional Colca Sour drink. In Chivay, there will be an hour for you to enjoy lunch at your leisure.

To conclude our expedition, we will make our way to Arequipa, aiming to arrive between 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm, with a drop-off near the Plaza de Armas.

Accommodation during the Tour

This journey includes one night of lodging with breakfast in Chivay in a double or triple room. During the booking process, you have the option to select your accommodation type:

• Hostel: Nativa or similar
• 2-star hotel: Colca Inn or similar
• 3-star hotel: Pozo del Cielo or similar

Should you prefer a single room, an additional fee of 15 USD applies.

Pickup Information

The tour includes pickup services from hotels in central Puno. If your hotel is located on the outskirts, please make your way to the Plaza Mayor in Puno.

It's important to note that pickup is not available from certain hotels, including GHL Lago Titicaca, Casa Andina Premium, Sonesta Posada, Lake Titikaka Hotel-Xima, Pacha Confort, Mirador del Titikaka, Hotel Wisny, Jose Antonio Hotel, Taypikala Hotel, Pumakala Hotel, Atoja Chucuito Hotel, and any accommodation situated on the Uros Islands.
