Excursion to La Paz & Tiwanaku

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Puno at the designated time. We will then make our way to the border region between Peru and Bolivia, specifically in the town of Desaguadero. Upon crossing into Bolivia, we will proceed towards the capital city.

After approximately one hour of travel, we'll reach the archaeological site of Tiwanaku, renowned as one of Bolivia's key pre-Columbian civilizations. Here, we will explore remarkable structures that unveil ancient mysteries: the Kalasasaya temple, the Akapana pyramid, and the Gate of the Sun.

During our visit, we'll have the chance to observe the intriguing ‘Queros’, ceremonial vessels, along with walls adorned with unique Huaco-portraits, which are human face figures. As we journey to Tiwanaku, insightful information about the Tiwanaku empire—which stretched across the central Andes to Lake Titicaca—will be shared with you.

Following our exploration, we'll travel for another hour to arrive in La Paz. Here, a guided tour awaits us, covering one of the charming colonial neighborhoods, along with 16 de Julio Avenue and Mariscal Santa Cruz Avenue. We’ll delve into the historic district, taking time to visit the 16th century church of San Francisco, the exquisite neoclassical Nuestra Señora de la Paz cathedral, and the vibrant Plaza Murillo.

As we wrap up our day, our excursion continues to the convent of Santo Domingo and the mystifying Witches' Market, where you'll find an array of intriguing mystical and esoteric items to discover.

Afterward, we'll make our way back across the border into Peru, concluding the trip with a drop-off at your hotel in Puno, after a fulfilling 10 to 11 hour experience.
