La Paz & Uyuni Salt Flat 3 Day Trip
Description
Embark on a captivating three-day journey from Puno to La Paz and the Uyuni Salt Flat, exploring two of Bolivia's most remarkable destinations!
3-Day Expedition to La Paz & Uyuni Salt Flat
Day 1: Puno - La Paz
Join us for an exciting adventure! Our day begins at 9 AM when we collect you from your accommodation in Puno and proceed to cross into Bolivia. A leisurely stop is planned for lunch along the route to La Paz.
We anticipate arriving in the capital around 3 PM. Here, you'll have the chance to experience the city's renowned cable car, recognized as the most significant in South America, providing panoramic views as it traverses the urban landscape.
As we explore, a brief guided tour will take us through the historic district along the 16 de Julio and Mariscal Santa Cruz avenues, where notable sites such as the Church of San Francisco and Murillo Square await. In the square, marvel at the impressive Cathedral of Our Lady of La Paz and the Legislative and Government Palace.
Following the tour, enjoy some time to have dinner at your own pace before we board the bus to Uyuni at 8 PM.
Day 2: Uyuni Salt Flat - La Paz
Awake early! We reach Uyuni at dawn and will walk to a nearby restaurant for breakfast on your own. Subsequently, we’ll take a jeep to the magnificent Uyuni Salt Flat, the largest salt flat globally, stopping en route at the Uyuni Train Cemetery, an open-air exhibit showcasing the first locomotives of Bolivia.
In the town of Colchani, located close to the salt flat, we will observe salt extraction processes and visit the Playa Blanca hotel, uniquely made entirely of salt blocks. A traditional regional lunch will be provided, featuring a starter, main dish, and infusion, before we venture into the salt flat towards Incahuasi Island, home to impressive cacti.
In Incahuasi and the salt flat, relish some free time for photography before returning to Uyuni, where you can take further time to unwind, shop, and enjoy dinner on your own. We meet again at 8 PM to head to the bus terminal for our journey back to La Paz.
Day 3: La Paz - Pomata - Juli - Puno
Upon our arrival in La Paz at 5 AM, we will board another bus heading to Desaguadero to cross the border back into Peru. From there, a breakfast stop will be offered before we continue to the town of Pomata. Here, we’ll visit the stunning colonial Santiago Apostol Church, recognized for its Cusquenian artistry.
Next, we proceed to Juli, known as Little Rome for its abundance of religious architecture and its historical role during the colonial era. We will visit the church of San Juan de Letrán or Our Lady of the Assumption, contingent upon availability, built by the Dominican and Jesuit orders.
After exploring these two fascinating sites, we will return to Puno, concluding the tour with a drop-off at your hotel around 1 PM.
