Activity Details

We will gather at the entryway of the Alto de la Ballena winery, located amidst the striking Sierra de la Ballena, a remarkable geological feature within the Maldonado region.

The journey will commence with a stroll through the vineyard, where we will closely observe the soil’s attributes, which include stony textures, high mineral concentrations, and excellent drainage capabilities. Insights will be shared regarding the grape varieties cultivated in this area and the viticulture methodologies tailored to suit the local environment. Interestingly, the Atlantic Ocean's proximity in Punta del Este contributes to lessening vine stress while enhancing the natural acidity of the wines.

As we proceed, we'll be treated to stunning panoramic views of the Laguna del Sauce, a picturesque landscape characterized by ancient rock formations and an unspoiled natural setting. We will delve into the winery's philosophy regarding production, which emphasizes micro-vinification and the true expression of terroir.

Following our exploration of the vineyard, we will make our way to the panoramic terrace for a tasting session featuring 4 premium wines. Here, we will evaluate their aromatic characteristics, structure, persistence, and overall balance. The tasting will be complemented by a selection of cheeses, charcuterie, homemade bread, olive oil, and nuts.
