Since becoming the property of Louis XVI in 1783, the Rambouillet Castle has hosted various notable French figures, including Napoleon I, Charles de Gaulle, and Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. Your ticket grants you the opportunity to wander through the splendid halls and rooms of this historic palace at your own leisure.
As you explore the castle, you will delve into the history of numerous international summits that have taken place within its walls, including the inaugural G7 meeting in 1975 and the peace talks regarding Kosovo in 1999.
The ticket also allows access to additional structures near the castle: the dairy originally belonging to Marie Antoinette and the House of Shells. The dairy was a gift from King Louis XVI for his wife, who had a fondness for dairy. The House of Shells, on the other hand, serves as a quaint guesthouse adorned with tiny shells from mollusks.
Moreover, your entry includes access to the gardens of Rambouillet Castle. This expansive area is filled with a variety of flowerbeds and parks encircling a large ornamental pond, featuring six artificial islands.
Visiting Hours
Rambouillet Castle welcomes visitors every day except Tuesdays, and operates during the following hours:
- From October 1 to March 31: 10 am to 1 pm (last admission at noon) and 2 pm to 5 pm (last admission at 4 pm)
- From April 1 to September 30: 10 am to 1 pm (last admission at noon) and 2 pm to 6 pm (last admission at 5 pm)
Your admission covers self-guided tours of the castle, the Queen’s Dairy, and the House of Shells. Note that access to the guest rooms is not included, but a supplementary fee of 2EUR per ticket can be paid directly at the site.
Admission Policy
Entry to the Rambouillet Castle is complimentary for the following individuals:
- Individuals aged 18 to 25 from the European Union.
- All children under 18 years old, regardless of nationality.
To obtain the free admission, visit the site’s ticket office and present a document verifying your eligibility for a free ticket.
Furthermore, admission is free for all visitors on the first Sunday of each month during the periods of January through March, November through December, and on the third weekend of September.

Castle Location
The castle of Rambouillet is located at the following address in the French city of the same name: Place de la Libération. To access the fortress, you only have to show the barcode that appears on the voucher of this reservation at the main entrance.
How to get there:
- By train: TER trains connect Gare Montparnasse station, located in the center of Paris, with Gare de Rambouillet station, in just one hour. This last railway terminal is only a 15-minute walk from the castle.
- By car: the A10 and N10 roads connect the French capital with the town of Rambouillet in just over one hour.

This time will be included within the time slot you chose when making your reservation.
