Activity Details

At the appointed time, we'll be waiting for you at the corner of the Dominica Museum, opposite the Roseau cruise ship port. Once ready, we'll board the vehicle that will take us to the first destination of the day: the exotic Indian River, in Portsmouth.

After an hour's drive, we'll arrive at the dock, where we'll embark on a 1 hour and 20-minute boat ride along Dominica's widest river. Are you ready?

As we glide through its peaceful waters, you will be mesmerized by the sounds of the jungle. We'll see tall swamp trees and roots that emerge like living sculptures. Did you know that this enclave was one of the settings for the cinematic franchise Pirates of the Caribbean? You can feel like part of the cast!

Next, we'll disembark and take a short 15-minute drive to Cabrits National Park. This natural setting will welcome us with breathtaking views of Prince Rupert and Douglas Bays. Once there, we'll walk through the tropical forest and arrive at historic Shirley Fort.

We'll take a 40-minute to 1-hour tour of this former 18th-century British fort, which will welcome us with its cannons pointing toward the horizon and restored barracks. We'll learn about its history of battles, resistance, and colonial power until its abandonment in 1854.

Then, we'll return to the vehicle and head to Paradise Valley Garden Nursery, a 60-acre garden in the Borne region. For an hour, we'll lose ourselves among its flower-lined paths, with endless colors, palm trees, and medicinal plants that hold ancient secrets. We'll learn about sustainable gardening, and if you wish, you can choose a plant as a souvenir of the island.

Finally, we'll begin our return journey to the Roseau cruise terminal, where we'll say goodbye 5 hours after pickup.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You will enjoy a scenic journey beginning at the designated meeting point. After a brief introduction, we will travel to the Indian River site. The boat ride lasts approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Following the river experience, a short drive will take us to Cabrits National Park.

At Cabrits, we'll explore intricate landscapes and history through a guided tour of Fort Shirley. Following that, we will visit the Paradise Valley Garden Nursery where participants can discover sustainable gardening practices and choose a plant to take home.
