Day Trip to a Maroon Town
Description
Explore the Maroon Community of Charles Town and uncover the rich history of Jamaica. Engage with the cultural legacy and traditions of this unique group.
A Journey to a Maroon Town
Starting at 10 am, our team will meet you at your hotel in Runaway Bay for a journey lasting approximately two hours to reach Charles Town.
Upon arrival, you will experience one of Jamaica's noteworthy Maroon communities. Your first stop will be the Charles Town Maroon Museum, where you'll delve into the historical narratives surrounding this community and their quest for liberty.
The Maroons descend from individuals forcibly brought from Africa as slaves during the 18th century. Today, they embrace their identity as self-governing communities formed by former escaped slaves.
After immersing yourself in this crucial chapter of Jamaican history, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy traditional music and dance. Feel free to participate and embrace the lively atmosphere!
Next, we will head to the Buff Bay River for a refreshing swim, followed by a visit to a nearby eatery where you can savor authentic local dishes (lunch not included).
After your meal, we will begin our return to Runaway Bay, concluding the tour at your hotel around 3 pm.
