Admission to the Fort de Salses
Step into the past with a ticket to visit the Fort de Salses, a splendid example of military architecture. Its pivotal location has been central to conflicts between Spain and France, ultimately falling under French control in 1642.
This ticket grants you the freedom to navigate the fortress while uncovering its various sections, including the common area, the stronghold, and the keep, which served as the final sanctuary of the fortress.
Additionally, you will learn about the numerous reconstructions and alterations led by the renowned military engineer Vauban, providing a unique glimpse into the masterful expertise of this iconic figure!
Visiting Hours
The Fort de Salses welcomes visitors every day of the week at the following hours:
- From April 1 to September 30: 10 am to 6:30 pm (continuous hours)
- From October 1 to March 31: 10 am to 12:45 pm and from 2 pm to 5:15 pm
Keep in mind that the last admission is allowed 45 minutes before the closing time.
Complimentary Entry
Entry to the Fort de Salses is free for:
- European Union youth aged 18 to 25.
- Minors under 18 years, regardless of origin.
To obtain the free entry, please visit the ticket office on-site and present a valid form of identification to confirm your eligibility.
Additionally, admission is free for all visitors on the first Sunday of each month from January to March, throughout November and December, as well as during the third weekend in September.
Important Notice
Be advised that, starting on May 16, 2025, there will be art installations present within the Fort de Salses, resulting in the closure of the tower and upper levels.

Fort de Salses Location
The Fort de Salses is located at 66600 Salses-le-Château. On the day, you just have to show the barcode on this booking at the main entrance.
Opening Times
The Fort de Salses is open Monday to Sunday at the following times:
- April 1 to September 30: from 10 am to 6:30 pm (uninterrupted)
- From October 1 to March 31: from 10 am to 12:45 pm and from 2 pm to 5:15 pm
Please note that the last allowed access is 45 minutes before closing time.

Free Admission
Admission to the Fort de Salses is free for the following individuals:
- Young people from the European Union between 18 and 25 years old.
- Children under 18 years old, regardless of their nationality.
In order to acquire the free admission mentioned above, you'll have to go to the site’s ticket office and present a valid ID demonstrating your eligibility for a free ticket.
Admission is also free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31, between November 1 and December 31, and the third weekend of September.

The ticket will be valid for 7 days from the date indicated on the voucher.

Please note that, starting from May 16, 2025, there will be artworks in the Fort de Salses, which means the tower and upper sections will be closed.
