Tour Highlights
At the designated time, our team will greet you at your Salta hotel and embark on a journey through the city, unveiling connections to one of the vital confrontations in the War of Independence of Argentina.
The renowned Battle of Salta, fought on February 20, 1813, resulted in a significant triumph for the Army of the North led by General Manuel Belgrano against the royalist forces under Juan Pío Tristán. We will examine sites such as the Portezuelo area, which served as the sole access point to the city at that time, to gain insights into how this encounter unfolded.
Our exploration will next take us to Chachapoyas, where we will trace the very paths trodden by the patriot troops of the Army of the North. The Castañares Farm awaits us as our next destination. This historical site was where General Belgrano devised his strategy for the Battle of Salta. We will share the captivating tale surrounding the events of the eve leading to this critical battle.
Continuing, we will proceed to Lomas de Medeiros. Here, Martina Silva de Gurruchaga actively led a group of women and gauchos who rallied to support the patriot cause. After uncovering this compelling narrative, we will make our way back to downtown Salta to observe the 20 de Febrero Monument, which honors the battle's legacy. Additionally, we will take a moment to appreciate the Monument to Martin Miguel de Güemes, dedicated to the lone Argentine general who perished in combat during this conflict.
Our tour will culminate at the Nuestra Señora de la Merced church, a neo-Gothic structure renowned for housing the iconic cross from the Battle of Salta. Following our visit to this significant artifact, we will return you to your hotel, concluding the experience approximately four hours after our initial pickup.
