Our adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Salvador , setting the stage for an insightful visit to the Quilombo Kaonge community in the Recôncavo Baiano region. Prepare for an enriching encounter with the vibrant essence of Afro-Brazilian culture!

First, we will make our way to the picturesque town of Santo Amaro, situated 111 kilometers (68.9 miles) from Salvador. Here, we will wander through its beautiful streets lined with century-old mansions and lively markets, allowing us to connect with the historical significance of the area.

Next, our itinerary takes us to the Parish Church of Our Lady of Purification and the Igreja dos Humildes church. Notably, this church served as a female education center established in 1817, aimed at providing knowledge and shelter for orphaned girls and widows.

As we continue, we'll arrive at Quilombo Kaonge, where a local griot will guide us through the everyday life of this community, descendants of 19th-century enslaved individuals.

Additionally, we will engage in a cooking workshop to learn about the preparation of palm oil, manioc flour, and herbal syrup, representing three hallmark products of northeastern Brazil. The experience culminates in a traditional Quilombola lunch, featuring chicken, fish moqueca, rice, pirão, caruru, and vatapá - a true delight for the senses!

Ultimately, we will conclude our journey back at the starting point, approximately 7 hours after our initial departure.
