Embark on a private day excursion to Quilombo Kaonge, where we will explore the historical and cultural heritage of this Afro-Brazilian community. Additionally, we will sample traditional products from Brazil's northeast.

Description

We will commence our journey by picking you up from your hotel in Salvador at the designated time for our visit to the Quilombo Kaonge community, nestled in the Recôncavo Baiano region. Prepare yourself for a deep dive into the vibrant Afro-Brazilian culture!

Initially, we will travel to Santo Amaro, situated 111 kilometers (68.9 miles) from Salvador. In this picturesque town, we will wander through streets adorned with grand historic mansions and explore the lively market, gaining insight into the historical significance of the area.

Next, our itinerary includes a visit to the Parish Church of Our Lady of Purification and the Igreja dos Humildes, which served as a center for female education in 1817, dedicated to caring for and educating orphaned girls and widows.

We will then proceed to Quilombo Kaonge, where a local griot, a community storyteller, will guide us through the everyday life of this group of descendants of 19th-century enslaved individuals.

During our time there, we will also partake in a cooking workshop that focuses on making palm oil, manioc flour, and herbal syrup, three staples of northeastern Brazilian cuisine. To conclude our experience, we will savor a traditional Quilombola lunch featuring chicken, fish moqueca, rice, pirão, caruru, and vatapá - a true culinary delight!

We will wrap up our adventure by returning to the initial meeting point, approximately 7 hours after we started.
