Recôncavo Baiano Day Trip

Embark on a day trip to the Recôncavo Baiano region from Salvador, where you will explore Santo Amaro, Cachoeira, and São Félix, delving into the rich colonial and Afro-Brazilian heritage of Bahia.

Day Trip Overview

At the scheduled time, we will meet you at your Salvador hotel and set off towards the Recôncavo Baiano, a region renowned for its historical and cultural significance in Bahia. Let’s begin our adventure!

Following a scenic drive of about one hour, we will arrive at Santo Amaro da Purificação, a colonial city enriched with Afro-Brazilian traditions and religious harmonization. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit the local market, alive with colors and aromas of tropical fruits, spices, and traditional Bahian dishes.

Next, we will stroll through the charming historic center of Santo Amaro, where you can admire the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Purificação and the main square. Interestingly, this town is known as the birthplace of musical legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.

After a 1.5-hour visit, we will travel for approximately 45 minutes to Cachoeira, celebrated as one of the most stunning colonial towns in Bahia, where we will explore for about 2 hours.

You’ll walk along cobblestone lanes and gaze at Baroque architecture that reflects the grandeur of imperial Brazil. Highlights include the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos, the Chapel of Our Lady of Help, and the Ordem Terceira do Carmo, renowned for its unique religious sculptures. Additionally, we will see the Santa Casa da Misericórdia and the Igreja Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Monte.

During our time here, you will gain insights into the Irmandade da Boa Morte, a notable Afro-Catholic organization formed by Afro-descendant women. Midway through our day, you'll have 30 minutes of free time to savor local dishes at your leisure.

After enjoying lunch, we will pass the historic train station and cross the Dom Pedro II Bridge over the Paraguaçu River to reach São Félix, which is just a short 10-minute walk across the bridge.

In São Félix, we will explore the heritage of Bahia's tobacco industry with a visit to the Dannemann cigar factory. Additionally, we will see the churches of Jesus Menino and Senhor São Félix, which are significant religious landmarks in the city.

After spending an hour in São Félix, we will commence our journey back to Salvador, concluding your experience with a drop-off at your hotel approximately 8 hours after we first set out.
