Goree Island and Lac Rose Private Trip
Description
Experience the intriguing history and picturesque landscapes of Senegal with our exceptional day trip to Goree Island and Lac Rose.
Trip Overview
We will meet you at your hotel at the scheduled time and proceed to the port of Dakar. There, a ferry will be ready to take us to the alluring Island of Goree.
While wandering through Goree Island, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will discover its significant role in the Atlantic slave trade. Our first stop will be the House of Slaves, a grim reminder of this dark chapter, which functioned as both a prison and marketplace for enslaved individuals.
Next, we'll meander through the vibrant narrow streets adorned with charming colonial architecture. You will reach the historic fort, where breathtaking views of the coastline await. Afterward, we will board the ferry to return to Dakar. Upon arrival at the port, a bus will be ready to transport us to Lac Rose (Pink Lake), an area renowned for being the final destination of the Paris-Dakar Rally until 2008.
We'll hop into an off-road vehicle that will guide us through the stunning landscapes surrounding the lake. In addition to the striking pink hues of Lac Rose, you will also marvel at the beautiful sand dunes that create a barrier between the lake and the Atlantic Ocean.
Before returning to Saly, you’ll have the chance to take a refreshing swim in the lake, where the high salt concentration allows you to effortlessly float on the surface.
The excursion will conclude after approximately 10.5 hours, bringing you back to the original meeting point.
Lac Rose Insights
It is important to note that during the rainy season in Senegal, typically from August to October, the sun's absence can cause the lake's color to diminish. Swimming in Lac Rose will be allowed only in favorable weather conditions. If time permits, you will have around 15 minutes to relish the salty waters of the lake—don't forget to pack your swimwear!
