Description
Embark on a day excursion to Joal Fadiouth, where you'll explore a unique village adorned with countless shells, marvel at the grand Great Baobab Tree, and navigate the stunning Saloum Delta. This is an experience not to be missed!
Day Trip Overview
Your journey begins with a pickup from your hotel in Saly, after which we set off towards the south. The journey will take around 2 hours, during which you can enjoy the picturesque coastal and rural scenery of Senegal, offering a glimpse of the wonders waiting for us in Joal Fadiouth, a settlement split between the African mainland and a small island.
Once we arrive, we will cross a lengthy wooden bridge leading to the island of Fadiouth. This extraordinary destination features streets, homes, and even graveyards, all covered in seashells. Our exploration, lasting about an hour, allows us to wander through the narrow lanes and observe the harmonious coexistence of Christians and Muslims, sharing space with both churches and mosques.
Next, we will visit the awe-inspiring Great Baobab Tree, a millennium-old giant known not only for its impressive stature but also for its captivating aura. We will delve into the legends associated with this remarkable tree, uncovering why it stands as one of the iconic symbols of Senegal.
Our adventure will then take us to the Ndamgane jetty, where we will board a canoe and venture into the Saloum Delta. This remarkable region, recognized as a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site, is a haven for migratory birds and boasts an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. As we navigate its waterways, you'll witness the stunning mangrove forests and wetlands rich in ecological value.
Later, we will make a stop at Mar Lodj Island, allowing you some time to relax and enjoy a lunch break, tasting the delights of local cuisine within a breathtaking backdrop.
Post-lunch, we will make our way back to your hotel, concluding an enriching journey lasting between 6 to 7 hours.
