Tour Details

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Saly, followed by a journey of approximately 50 miles (80 km) along the scenic northern coast of Senegal. After about 1.5 hours of travel, we will reach Lac Rose, also known as the Pink Lake, celebrated for its strikingly colored waters.

Throughout the ride, you'll gain insights into the fascinating phenomenon behind the lake's pink hue, which results from a high salt concentration and microscopic algae present in the water. With salt levels ten times greater than that of the ocean, it’s common to see locals employing traditional methods to harvest this valuable resource.

Upon arrival, we will transition into an off-road vehicle to explore the beautiful landscape encircling the lake. You'll witness stunning sand dunes situated between the lake and the ocean and learn about the area previously used as the final stage for the Paris-Dakar Rally until 2008.

After our off-roading adventure, you will have the chance to take a refreshing dip in the saltwater lake, experiencing the unique sensation of effortlessly floating on its surface. This is the perfect way to complete your day!

To wrap up our excursion, we will head back to our meeting point and board the bus for your return trip to the hotel in Saly.

Lac Rose

Please be aware that during Senegal's rainy season, from August to October, the lake's vibrant color can diminish due to reduced sunlight. Swimming in Lac Rose is permitted only when weather conditions are favorable. If time allows, you will have approximately 15 minutes to relish the buoyant experience of the lake's salty water. Be sure to pack your bathing suit!
