Salzburg Guided Tour
Description
Embark on a journey through time and explore the enchanting city associated with Mozart on this guided exploration of Salzburg, a site recognized as a World Heritage Site. It's an experience you won’t want to miss!
Tour Overview
Our meeting point is set for 3 Rainerstraße at the specified time. We will then make our way to Kurgurten, a serene garden that lies adjacent to the Mirabell Palace, an exquisite baroque edifice from the 17th century. Let’s delve into the fascinating history of this area!
As we stroll through the elaborately landscaped gardens, we will encounter mythological sculptures as well as locations featured in the iconic 60’s musical film The Sound of Music. Our trek will continue alongside the Salzach River towards the center of the old town, passing by the residence of Mozart, where the composer spent a significant part of his adult life.
Just a few steps away, on Getreidegasse, you will find the birthplace of Mozart, now transformed into a museum. Surrounded by charming facades and antique iron signs, we will be immersed in the historical essence of Salzburg. Our guided experience will lead us to Kollegienkirche, a baroque masterpiece crafted by architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Interestingly, it has served as a venue for operas since the 1970s.
Continuing our tour, we will arrive at Residenzplatz, where we can admire the grandeur of the Residenzbrunnen and the Salzburg Cathedral, a site of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's baptism. This cathedral, which underwent reconstruction in the 17th century, stands as one of the city’s most prominent landmarks.
As we delve into the historical narratives of this square, we’ll pass by the Mariensäule fountain while en route to Domplatz and the striking sphere located at Kapitelplatz. Here at Kapitelplatz, you will notice the magnificent gold-toned sphere that harmoniously blends modernity with the city’s historic panorama.
At Kapitelplatz, we will also observe the Kapitelschwemme, a place where horses once quenched their thirst and took breaks. From this vantage point, enjoy a sweeping view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which has stood sentinel over the city since 1077, making it one of Central Europe's oldest fortifications!
We will conclude our 2-hour guided exploration at this scenic location, bidding farewell as our remarkable journey comes to a close.
