Los Haitises National Park Day Trip

On this excursion to Los Haitises National Park from Samaná, participants will navigate through karst formations and explore caves while enjoying a kayaking adventure in the mangrove areas. Wine and snacks will be served as we watch the sunset, enhancing the experience.

Details of the Trip

If you haven't yet explored the intriguing mogotes and caves of Los Haitises, we will gather at the Cayo Vigia dock, from where we'll embark on a journey to one of the most stunning sites on the Samaná Peninsula.

As we traverse Samaná Bay, participants will be treated to picturesque views of the northeastern Dominican Republic. Upon arriving at Los Haitises National Park, the landscape reveals itself, featuring unique limestone formations resulting from karst erosion, rising dramatically from the water.

Our first destination will be Cueva de la Arena, where we will closely observe the geological features shaped by the forces of the sea, rain, and time, offering insight into how these caverns were formed.

Following this, we’ll transition to kayaking, paddling through the mangroves from the Perlas dock to Cueva de la Línea, alternatively known as Cueva del Ferrocarril. This 20-minute paddle through the critically important mangrove ecosystem highlights its essential role in preserving biodiversity and coastline protection.

Once back on the boat, we will continue past Cayo de las Garzas, a site of significant ecological importance, where we might encounter various birds and their nests, depending on the season. We’ll also pass by Cueva de Willy Simón, as we learn about the fascinating history associated with it.

To round off our adventure, we’ll savor the beautiful sunset in Los Haitises while enjoying a glass of wine and taking in the stunning vistas of the park. Throughout this day trip, refreshments including tropical fruit, snacks, water, and soft drinks will be provided.

In conclusion, after an immersive experience spanning 6 hours, we will return to the departure pier, filled with memories of the breathtaking sights we’ve encountered.
