Calilegua National Park Guided Visit

After collecting you from your accommodation in San Salvador de Jujuy , we'll embark on a journey heading north towards Calilegua National Park. This drive will take approximately two and a half hours.

On our way, we will pass through the towns of San Pedro de Jujuy and Libertador General San Martin, where your guide will share insights into the significance of sugar cane cultivation in the region and discuss the historical context of the colonial estates where it was produced.

Upon arriving at Calilegua National Park, we will exit the vehicle and delve into the fascinating aspects of this nature reserve, exploring its history alongside the diverse flora and fauna it supports. Have you ever heard of yungas? You will learn all about them during the visit!

Established as a protected area in 1979, this national park features over 120 tree species, a variety of ferns, and more than 400 species of mammals and birds. Key wildlife to look for includes toucans, tapirs, coatis, and jaguars, which characterize the park’s biodiversity.

Next, we will make our way to the Mesada de las Colmenas section, where we’ll enjoy breathtaking vistas at an altitude of 1,900 meters (6,234 feet), providing a perfect vantage point to appreciate the natural splendor of the area.

After this, you’ll have a short break to enjoy a packed lunch that you bring along. We will then begin our return journey to San Salvador de Jujuy. Covering approximately 400 kilometers, we anticipate returning to your hotel around 11 hours after departure.
